Iriga: DOH Bicol, Sorsogon CHO hold Healthiest Handaan contest, highlights Pinggang Pinoy

The Department of Health Bicol Center for Health Development (DOH Bicol CHD), in partnership with the Sorsogon City Health Office (CHO), awarded five winning entries in the Healthiest Handaan contest held in Sorsogon City. The activity emphasized the importance of Pinggang Pinoy which is an easy-to-follow food proportion guide.

The winners were:

  1. Pancit Bihon by Ms. Ymanaella Harra
  2. Atsara Papaya by Ms. Arlene Dioneda Sta. Ana
  3. Minonggohang Manok with Gata by Mr. Isko Doringo
  4. Garlic Green Tea Chicken by Ms. Bea Patricia Lastica Perez
  5. Crispy Tofu with Basil by Ms. Babylyn Lastica

The entries were evaluated based on their nutritive value, general appearance, availability of ingredients, creativity in caption writing, and relevance to the theme.

The activity aimed to promote a healthy diet, especially during fiestas and “handaan,” thereby significantly contributing to better nutrition and addressing unhealthy eating practices and culturally accepted norms among Filipinos.

During the event, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) from Sorsogon City were briefed on Pinggang Pinoy and recognized for their crucial role as frontline health workers at the barangay level.

Key attendees included Hon. Mark Jayson D. Jamisola, Sorsogon City Councilor; Dr. Jazel S. Calleja, Rural Health Physician; Dr. Nikki Jane P. Jamisola, LRD Medical Coordinator; Dr. Gladys Demdam-Escote, Sorsogon Provincial DOH Officer; and Dr. Monrey Isaiah Mancilla, Head of the Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control Cluster/Health Promotion Unit.
