Iriga: DOH Bicol deploys teams to intensify demand generation for COVID-19 vaccination

As part of the campaign to improve the vaccination coverage of the Bicol Region, teams from the Department of Health Bicol Center for Health Development (DOH Bicol CHD) were deployed across the Bicol Region to conduct Demand Generation Activities for COVID-19 vaccination.

Through a collaboration with the Department of Education Regional Office V and the Schools Division Offices, the demand generation activities were conducted in various schools in the region. Schools that were selected as venues were located in municipalities that had low vaccination coverage for children aged 5 to 11 years old.

In the province of Sorsogon, the teams visited schools in the municipalities of Donsol, Pilar, Castilla, Bulan and Matnog on May 31 to June 1, 2022. Following this, the teams conducted demand generation activities in Masbate City, Cawayan, and Aroroy in the province of Masbate on June 7 and 8, 2022. Afterwards, the teams went to the municipalities of Paracale, San Lorenzo Ruiz, and Sta. Elena in Camarines Norte on June 20 and 21, 2022. Demand generation activities were also conducted in the municipalities of Guinobatan, Daraga, and Malilipot in Albay on June 23 and 24, 2022. Lastly, the teams went to Naga City, Iriga City, and the municipalities of Pili and Nabua in Camarines Sur on June 28 and 29, 2022.

Students, teachers, parents, barangay officials, and other individuals who participated in the activity were also vaccinated by the vaccination teams from the rural health units (RHUs) accompanied by the demand generation teams. During the two-day activity, a total of 11,997 individuals were vaccinated – 2,208 individuals from Albay; Camarines Sur – 5,372; Camarines Norte – 471; and Masbate – 3,946.

The Bicol CHD highly encourages the public to get vaccinated and receive their booster doses once eligible. With the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the Bicol Region, getting vaccinated and boosted is essential in being protected from severe and critical forms of COVID-19.
