The City Government of Iriga, under the leadership of Mayor Rex C. Oliva, joined the Iriga City Fire Station in the formal observance of Fire Prevention Month 2026 on March 2. The kick-off activities, themed “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa,” highlighted a unified front in ensuring a fire-safe community, especially as the summer season begins.
The day’s activities began with a massive motorcade through the Central Business District (CBD), participated in by the BFP, PNP, BJMP, CDRRMO, and various Barangays. This convoy served as a visible reminder of the city’s heightened vigilance. Following the motorcade, a spirited program was held at the Iriga City Plaza, attended by Vice Mayor Edsel S. Dimaiwat, Committee on Fire Safety and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Chair Councilor Melnan R. Murallo-Asanza, and Councilors Jeff B. Tino, Jor-El O. Caayao, and Nikki C. Lagrimas, alongside CDRRM Officer Jasmin B. Botor, uniformed personnel, and various stakeholders.
In his message of support, Mayor Rex C. Oliva reaffirmed the LGU’s steadfast commitment to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in promoting peace, order, and public safety. He commended the firefighters, led by City Fire Marshal FCINSP Junjen P. Novela, for their courage and dedication in protecting lives and properties. Mayor stressed “Uda Matagak, Uda Mawatak,” highlighting that fire prevention is a shared responsibility of everyone in the community.
The program featured a unique intermission number by BFP personnel and the LGU Iriga Folkloric Dance Troupe, showcasing the synergy between public service and local culture. To honor their cooperation, Plaques of Appreciation were awarded to Mayor Rex, Vice Mayor Edsel S. Dimaiwat, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, and various city offices. Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to the various Barangay Councils, led by their Punong Barangays, for their vital role in community safety.
As the dry season commences, Iriga City sends a clear message: safety starts at home, vigilance saves lives, and in preventing fires, no Irigueño stands alone.
