Iriga City hosts over 3000 delegates in 2024 Regional School Press Conference

Over 3000 delegates from 13 school divisions from Bicol region gathered at Iriga City Sports Center yesterday for the opening of 2024 Regional Schools Press Conference.

Before the official proceedings commenced, a sense of reverence filled the air as Rev. Fr. Dominique C. Llaguno of the Parroquia Y Santuario Archidiocesano de San Antonio de Padua Parish led a solemn holy mass, accompanied by the soul-stirring melodies of the Ezer Foundation Orchestra. This poignant prelude set the stage for a day of reflection, inspiration, and celebration.

The program began with a captivating Tinagba dance presentation, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of Iriga City, performed by the talented Tinagba dancers. Following this performance, the audience was enthralled by the dynamic energy of the Doxology presented by Zeferino Arroyo High School (ZAHS) 100 voices and the enchanting melodies of the Ezer Foundation Orchestra, captivating the hearts of all in attendance.

With over thousands present, the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation as the opening ceremony unfolded. Each schools division showcased its unique spirit and camaraderie through a showcase of cheers, embodying the vibrant diversity of the region and fostering unity among participants.

Dr. Mariano B. De Guzman, Iriga City Schools Division Superintendent, set the tone with a poignant message, reminding participants that “winning is not the end of the game; winning or not winning is just part of the process.”

Dr. Bebiano I. Sentillas, Assistant Regional Director of DepEd Regional Office V, echoed this sentiment, urging participants to focus on self-improvement rather than comparison with others. “When you continuously compete with yourself, you become better,” he declared, igniting a spark of determination in the hearts of young journalists.

Iriga City Mayor Wilfredo Rex C. Oliva emphasized the importance of participation over victory, underscoring the value of the journey itself. “What is important in a competition is not to win, but to take part,” he affirmed, inspiring participants to embrace every opportunity for growth and learning.

Dr. Gilbert T. Sadsad, Regional Director of DepEd ROV, delivered a stirring call to action, urging young journalists to uphold the principles of truth, authenticity, and factual accuracy in their work. “We want the truth to be written by our young artists,” he declared passionately, challenging them to rise above the noise of social media and uphold the integrity of journalism.

The event also featured captivating intermission performances, including a spirited folk dance by Iriga Central District teachers, showcasing the vibrant cultural tapestry of the region.

As the ceremony drew to a close, messages from Hon. Miguel Luis R. Villafuerte, Congressman of the 5th District, Camarines Sur, and Hon. Vincenzo Renato Luigi R. Villafuerte, Governor of Camarines Sur, were delivered by Mr. Skylab Nagrampa. They highlighted the pivotal role of journalism in society and encouraged participants to uphold the values of truth, integrity, and accountability in their reporting.

Amidst a crescendo of applause and cheers, the DepEd ROV Banner and delegation banners were hoisted high, formally declaring the commencement of RSPC 2024. Dir. Sadsad sealed the declaration with pride and anticipation, marking the beginning of an exhilarating journey for all participants.
