Iriga: City Arbor Day, 18th Alay Lakad Tanim Kahoy Para sa Puso celebrated in Legazpi City

In a bid to strengthen public awareness on the ecological value of trees, the City Government of Legazpi through the Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources (OCENR) spearheaded its annual Alay Lakad Tanim Kahoy Para sa Puso cum City Arbor Day on February 14, 2024 at Sitio 1 Caridad, Barangay Banquerohan, Legazpi City.

Present during the greening initiative were Legazpi City Mayor Carmen Geraldine B. Rosal, City ENRO Engr. Linno Benju Q. Calleja, City Councilor Renato A. Valladolid, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Assistant Regional Director for Management Services (ARD-MS) Ronnel B. Astor, and Albay Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENR) Officer Narisol C. Divina.

In his message, ARD Astor extended his gratitude to LGU Legazpi for the efforts it has put into the protection and conservation of the environment. “Trees provide us with countless of benefits. With this, may we all do our share in protecting our environment,” he said.

Similarly, PENRO Divina expressed PENRO Albay’s full support to all the LGUs initiatives to forge a stronger linkage and partnership between DENR and LGU Legazpi.

Moreover, Mayor Rosal thanked all the participants who despite the gloomy weather, came and actively planted some 3,000 tree seedlings of various species. She also appealed to all participants to support all environmental conservation efforts of the government for a carbon-free Legazpi.

The Alay Lakad Tanim Kahoy, which started in 2006 aims to promote environmental protection and management and establishing a more environment-friendly community.

DENR Bicol Regional Executive Director (RED) Francisco E. Milla, Jr. commits to continually strengthen its relationship with its partner stakeholders to fulfill its mandate to conserve, protect and manage the country’s environment and natural resources.
