The Provincial Government of Camarines Sur, under the leadership of Governor Lray Villafuerte, has acquired an all-terrain amphibious vehicle to strengthen disaster response, enabling rescuers to reach communities cut off by severe flooding.
The move follows the widespread flooding caused by STS Kristine in 2024, which highlighted the need for safer and more reliable rescue equipment. Unlike inflatable rescue boats that can be damaged by submerged debris, the amphibious vehicle is designed to operate on both land and water, offering greater stability and safety for rescuers and evacuees.
The Environment, Disaster Management and Emergency Response Office (EDMERO) will conduct training for members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) Response Cluster on the vehicle’s operation, with trainers from Ukraine facilitating the program.
As a province frequently affected by floods and typhoons, the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur is committed to strengthening disaster resilience. In addition to continuously capacitating its response teams through training and other capacity-building activities, the Provincial Government is also investing in updated equipment and facilities to improve emergency response capabilities.
