Local government units in Camarines Norte are currently procuring supplies to fully implement the Food Assistance-Rice Distribution Project under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) established by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. According to Melody Relucio, director of the @Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for Camarines Norte, the provincial government received P91 million under the initiative, while each of the 12 municipalities received P5 million.
The Assistance to Indigent Individuals or Families-Food Assistance (AIIF-FA) through the Rice Distribution Project under the LGSF-FA aims to provide timely, adequate, and targeted food support, particularly during periods of economic hardship, disasters, public health emergencies, and other situations that threaten household food security, according to DILG Joint Circular 1, series of 2026. “I want to express my gratitude to President Bongbong Marcos for this excellent program and for the active assistance provided through the LGSF. We can truly feel your support for the local government units,” said Governor Ricarte Padilla.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the assistance is distributed fairly, without political interference, so that it reaches those who need it most, especially the marginalized communities.
The governor added that they are already in the procurement process for the rice distribution project.
They intend for the municipalities to distribute the aid simultaneously so that the government’s support can be felt more broadly, he said.
“We are grateful for the allocation of P30 million for the implementation of farm-to-market road projects in 4th- to 6th-class municipalities, of which P5 million will be designated for the rice distribution project,” said San Vicente Mayor Mariano Palma.
San Vicente is one of the three towns in Camarines Norte classified as 4th- and 5th-class municipalities that were among the first to receive the P30 million LGSF funding.
Palma said that the LGSF assistance from the national government under President Marcos is “well-deserved,” given that their municipality generates low revenue due to its small land area and limited income.
“The rice distribution is a tremendous help for our marginalized constituents. Each will receive 10 kilos of rice every month for six months,” Palma added.
