The Philippine Information Agency Region 5 and PIA Albay Provincial Information Center received yesterday the 100% Smoke-Free Government Office award from the city government of Legazpi, together with the other 155 awardees in the city.
This initiative, led by the Legazpi City Heath Office (LCHO), aims to recognize and honor the business establishments, academe, barangays, hospital, and government offices that are 100% compliant to the provisions under the city’s smoke-free ordinance.
City Mayor Geraldine Rosal expressed her gratitude to the awardees and members as she further appealed for support to ensure efficient implementation of the smoke-free programs.
Committee on Health Chairman Hon. Alexander Jao said the Comprehensive Smoke-Free Ordinance, which included the new provisions on the use of vaporized products or vapes under RA 11900, was approved this week and set to be implemented in the city.
LCHO Chief Dr. Fulbert Gillego said this year’s increase in awardees, from 99 last year, showed the intensified support and awareness on the efforts of the city government to ensure equal protection to the health and welfare of non-smokers especially the vulnerable population.
