A grade 12 high school student died after undergoing hazing rites in Doña Martha Drive, Brgy. San Jose, Gusu, Zamboanga City at about 10:00 AM of November 15, 2020. PCOL. Rexmel Reyes, City Director of Zamboanga City Police Office identified the victim as Joselito Fernandez Envidiado, 22 years old, male, single, Grade 12 student of Zamboanga City National High School West and a resident of Sarangani drive, Brgy San Jose Gusu, Zamboanga City.
Investigation disclosed that prior to the incident, the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity, Trigusu Chapter initiated by the person of Ruben Rizada Sebastian (GT) Grand Triskelion, Roldan Misal Paler, 28 years old, single (External Grand Triskelion) Marcelino Elmido Viñas Jr., 28 years old, male, single (Master Initiator) and members named John Dale Ong Bulalacad, 22 years old, Eryan Viola Alabata, 20 years old, Xavierwyn Rizad Sebastian, 19 years old, Cleven Tumazar Atis, 27 years old, single, Fidel Bellamayor Cubol, 27 years old, all residents of Doña Martha drive, Brgy San Jose Gusu, Zamboanga City and Grand Triskelion identified as Azis Rojas Camlian, 20 years old, conducted Initiation rites at Cubol residence, Doña Martha drive, Brgy San Jose Gusu Zamboanga City wherein six (6) applicants were subjected for initiation and one of them was the victim. Marcelino Viñas Jr. and Joseph Villaroses, legal age, of San Jose Gusu, Zamboanga City (Member) immediately rushed the victim to Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC).
However, upon arrival at the said hospital, the victim was pronounced dead on arrival (DOA) by the Attending Physician. Marcelino Viñas Jr. was arrested by the PNP members of Zamboanga City Police Station 11 and was brought to the said police station for proper disposition of the case.
Immediately, a follow-up operation was conducted by the PNP members of said police station to locate other members involved. This resulted to the arrest of Roldan Paler (External Grand Triskelion) and other members mentioned above who conducted the initiation rites.
Confiscated from their possession was one (1) brown paddle measuring more or less 108 centimeters which was wrapped with a red sack.
Arrested suspects were now under the temporary custody of Zamboanga City Police Station 11-Central for proper disposition. (PCpt. Edwin A. Duco, Chief Public Information Officer)
