Government of Japan donated medical equipment and medical supplies to Surigao del Norte and Dinagat islands

The government of Japan through the International Organization for Migration donated medical equipment and medical supplies to the provinces of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands last November 23, 2022. The activity was held in Langojon Jianjoy Beach Resort located at Brgy. Sta. Fe, General Luna, Surigao del Norte.

There were 2 mobile cold chain transport vehicles, biomedical refrigerator and emergency health kits were handed yesterday.

The turnover of donations was graced by His Excellency Yoshihisa Ishikawa as the Consul General of Japan in Davao, Ms. Tristan A. Burnett as the Chief of Mission of IOM Philippines, other IOM officials, government representatives from the two provinces and the Department of Health.

Conrado Navidad Jr., the Program Coordinator for Emergency Response and Preparedness, IOM Philippines in an interview with RPN DXKS Surigao said these will help the two provinces particulary in the island of Siargao for Surigao del Norte and the Province of Dinagat Islands where the municipalities were badly hit by Super Typhoon Odette. These donations were given under the Mobile Health Clinic component of IOM’s Typhoon Odette Response funded by the government of Japan. Other donations initiated by IOM includes coordination of evacuation centers and provision of shelter repair kits, deployment of doctors and nurses in the barangays and conducting mobile clinics. Thousands of typhoon victims were given medical services and more than 3,000 families received shelter repair kits. The IOM also served the typhoon victims who needed psychosocial services in the form trainings and sessions to the people and the frontliners.

Mrs. Marichu M. Demery, Executive Assistant IV from the Province of Dinagat Islands and Simeon Vicente G. Castrence from the office of Congressman Francisco Jose F. Matugas II of the 1st District of Surigao del Norte expressed their gratitude to this big help to the people affected by the typhoon.

The activity was also attended by local officials in Siargao led by Pilar Mayor Ma. Liza Resurreccion, Dr. Ernesto Pareja of the Department of Health Center for Health Development Caraga, Erwin Pingal of Surigao del Norte Provincial Office of theDepartment of Health, Lucita Tagudin of Provincial Department Health Office in Dinagat Islands, Jude E.
