The Department of Health (DOH) inaugurates the first Bagong Urgent Care Ambulatory Services (BUCAS) Center in Zamboanga Peninsula located at the Mindanao Central Sanitarium in Pasobolong, Monday, March 25.

The BUCAS Center aims to provide better access to urgent and ambulatory care services 24/7. It offers a range of basic laboratory services, including complete blood count, urinalysis, X-ray services, and more. Likewise, it offers family planning services, HIV screening, and pre and post-test counseling, as well as attachment/replacement procedures like catheter insertion and removal of foreign bodies.

Mayor John Dalipe, who graced the unveiling ceremony, thanked the DOH for its initiative, as he pledged full support to the operation of the facility.

DOH-9 Regional Director Dr. Joshua Brillantes said the DOH aims to open a total of 28 BUCAS Centers by 2028, catering to 28 million of the poorest Filipinos and addressing gaps in the healthcare system.

The opening of the BUCAS Center in Zamboanga City marks a significant step towards improving healthcare access and services for the local community. In addition to strengthening and enhancing the primary care services that the public health clinics currently provide, this will also help address the “missing link” in the healthcare pathway.

Present during the event were DOH ROIX Asst. Regional Director Dr. Lenny Joy Rivera, City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite, MCS Medical Center Chief I Dr. Hannah Turco, Supervising Administration Officer Eleanor Sanson, Zamboanga Doctor’s Hospital Administrator Mitch Koh, health workers, and Pasobolong Barangay Officials.
