Displace Families Sheltered At Los Amigos Get Cash Aid

Davao City –  The Davao City government has distributed cash assistance to families temporarily sheltered at the Los Amigos Evacuation Area since November last year.

The cash was one-time assistance to the families who are staying at the evacuation center after they were evacuated from the

Quiñones Compound, Matina Pangi after the strong earthquake hit the city in November last year. Quiñones Compound, Matina Pangi is a landslide-prone area.

“They were advised for pre-emptive evacuation to ensure their safety as the place is a known landslide-prone area,” said Alfredo Baloran, the chief of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Baloran said that the displaced families were not able to look for a new place to stay as they got caught up with the pandemic.

City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) Chief Maria Luisa Bermudo said that each of 46 families was given P20,000 each to help them to look for a place to stay while waiting for their permanent relocation site under the City Housing Office.

“Two weeks ago we had a meeting with them and discussed if they are qualified to be relocated. They are qualified in the census tagging made by our City Housing,” said Bermudo.

One of the evacuees Imelda Razari expressed her gratitude to the city government for the financial assistance given to them.

“Dako gyud kaayo namong ipasalamat sa atong gobyerno nga murag natubag gyud akong kahago, akong paningkamot kay natabangan gyud mi nga unta puhon makabalay ra gyud mi (We are extremely grateful for the government for responding to our problems and for helping us to have a home in the future).”
