More than 200 personnel from the DENR Regional Office IX, Environmental Management Bureau ( EMB Region 9 ), Mines and Geosciences Bureau – Zamboanga Peninsula (Region IX) , PENRO Zamboanga del Sur, CENRO Guipos, and CENRO Ramon Magsaysay volunteers and joins the tree growing activity, March 21, at the Modernized and Mechanized Forest Nurseries (MMFN) within Barangay Baclay in this municipality.
This activity is conducted in celebration of the 2023 International Day of Forests with the theme “”𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚”, and a reflection of the department’s commitment in restoring and conserving the environment.
Prior to the tree growing activity, a Stilleto Run was held within the facility. Male participants raced in a 200m lane in 4-6 inches stilleto heels.
Right after the race, the volunteers proceeded with the tree growing activity. A total of 380 forest tree seedlings of lumbayao and yakal species were planted by the volunteers.
Seed sowing activity was also done by the volunteers at MMFN to gain first hand experience on how to grow seedlings. In entirety, 6,615 assorted forest tree seeds were sowed by the volunteers.
As a token of gratitude, the facility distributed a total of 625 golden tree seedlings to the volunteers present during the activity.
