In a statement released by the DepEd Secretary, Leonor Briones, it was stated that the decision of the Department of Education to move the schedule of opening of classes from August 24, 2020 to October 5, 2020 was based on the approval of the President Rodrigo Duterte to the recommendation of the Department of Education as a response also to the implications of imposition of Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) in Metro Manila and in the other provinces.

Thus, areas outside MECQ are directed to continue their orientations, dry runs, and delivery of learning resources such as modules so that they will be ready for the opening of classes on October 5, 2020.
