Davao City –   The Davao City government will start the implementation of the Quick Response (QR) Code system in November to further improve the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) contact tracing in the city.

“By November, mahimo na nang mandatory tanan sa Davao City [ang QR Code]. Mao ni siya ang usa sa mga moves nato para mapaspas nato ang atoang contact tracing (The QR Code will be mandatory in Davao City by November. This is one of our moves to hasten the contact tracing),” Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said on Friday’s Special Hour over the Davao City Disaster Radio.

For the success of the QR Code implementation, Mayor Sara also sought the support and cooperation of the private sector and business establishments so that this initiative will run smoothly.

“Kini siya ang success ani will be dependent sa support sa atong mga offices and establishments because they are required nga tanan mosulod ipa-scan nila ang QR Code, and that QR Code will store a 14-day data sa kadtong tao (The success of this will be dependent on the support of our offices and establishments because they are required to have all their clients to scan the QR Code and that QR Code will store a 14-day data of that person),” she said.

Based on her discussions with the City Information Technology Center, Mayor Sara said that the QR Code will be issued manually and not application-based because many people either not technology savvy or do not have smartphones.

Mayor Sara assured the implementation QR Code system will not be subjected to any fraud-related incidents as this has been discussed with the CITC for many weeks.

The mayor is expected to release an executive order to lay down the guidelines for the implementation of the QR code system.

The city government is currently conducting a test run of the QR Code system for all arriving passengers at the Francisco Bangoy International Airport. The test run is until October 11, 2020.
