Davao City – The Davao City government is setting up the Magallanes Elementary School as the second vaccination site for the inoculation of more public healthcare workers of the city.

“This is almost ready. Gahapon niadto ko didto, nag-pintura na sila og flooring. Ang mga classrooms naka-set up na pud. Hopefully, by Friday we could open up Magallanes Elementary School for our public healthcare workers,” Dr. Ashley Lopez, the acting City Health Officer, said during the Covid-19 Alert program on 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio last Wednesday (March 10).

Lopez said the Magallanes Elementary School is almost ready as the second vaccination site for the public healthcare workers.

“Ang plano namo ang mga public healthcare workers sama sa TTMF [Temporary Treatment and Monitoring Facility], sa molecular lab, sa atong mga empleyado sa city health office, mga district health centers will be accommodated sa Magallanes Elementary School,” he said.

Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, the Head of the Davao City’s Covid-19 vaccination, said that the city has also identified the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) as an additional vaccination site once the vaccination for the other individuals included in the priority group starts.

The vaccination rollout for healthcare workers has already started last March 5, Friday. Around 150 healthcare workers from the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) were the first to receive the first dose of Sinovac vaccines donated to the Philippine government.

Lopez said that as of 2:00 p.m. of March 9, almost 2,000 SPMC healthcare workers have already been inoculated while a total of 599 healthcare workers from tertiary private hospitals were already vaccinated at the A. Mabini Elementary School since Monday.

Lopez added that the government targets to inoculate 600 private healthcare workers daily. “Maybe a week from now we will complete the vaccination for SPMC and private healthcare workers. Next would be our public healthcare workers,” he added.

Meanwhile, Lopez said that they are already negotiating the city’s private hospitals to facilitate the vaccination for the senior citizens, who are the second priority in the government’s vaccination plan. They are looking at primary or secondary hospitals in Davao City.

“We are planning to hold the vaccination for senior citizens at the hospitals para diretso na sila ma-monitor na sila’g maayo, kay vulnerable ni sila and mas kinahanglan nato og monitoring bahin ani nga group of population,” Lopez said.
