Davao City Bracing For Second COVID-19 Wave

Davao City – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio admitted that the city is bracing for the second wave due to the many cases of COVID-19 in the National Capital Region and Cebu.

She cited the importance of the orientation that the more contagious variants of COVID-19 are already here in Davao City so that the manner of response is maximized.

Duterte-Carpio said there is a need to intensify testing of persons in the close contact with confirmed case named F1, the close associate of F1 which is F2 and the close associate of F2 which is F3.

She said surveillance and testing are now intensified in areas where there is a COVID-19 exposure especially brought by clustering of people.

“Nine people turned out positive including one person who had been vaccinated having worked as a medical front liner in Agdao after testing 300 persons. Testing is done inclusive of F2 and F3.  The Bangkerohan Public Market is scheduled for surveillance today,” Duterte-Carpio said.

She also agreed the need for a unified testing of passengers in borders which requires the intercession of the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19.

Duterte-Cario bared she already made a recommendation to the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 to do a cross-border screening as suggested by the Department of Health XI.

She said the it happens simultaneously with the effort to address the COVID-19 affliction within the city.

“The RIATF also have doctors who know the kind of screening that needs to be done,” She said.

Duterte-Carpio bared that Dr. Ashley Lopez, Acting City Health Officer did not recommend the mandatory quarantine for all the inbound passengers in the latest meeting with the City IATF.

In his radio program, Dr. Lopez said that if he has his way, he would recommend for quarantine of inbound passengers, regardless of their required RT-PCR tests.

Duterte-Carpio also said that all COVID-19 cases are now going to the Southern Philippines Medical Center while the other hospitals in the city will only cater to COVID-19 cases in the event there is a surge.

She also cited the need to limit the clustering of people to avoid the infection.

Duterte-Carpio pointed out that the infection happens when there is crowding of people.
