Cordillera New Year’s Celebration Generally Peaceful

Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet – Police Regional Office Cordillera has deployed some 1,178 police officers to secure the traditional New Year’s day celebration.

 

Based on the reports of the different PPOs and the Baguio City Police Office, more than one thousand police officers were deployed in different places of convergences and transport terminals within the region while some were instructed to conduct continuous patrolling to ensure the safe and orderly New Year’s day celebration.

 

As of January 1, 2021, there were no firecracker-related injuries recorded in the Cordillera however, two injuries were recorded due to Boga.

 

In Mountain Province, a 12-year-old boy in Paracelis has sustained injury in his eye after his playmate aimed the boga in his face and ignited. The boy was brought to Paracelis District Hospital for treatment and was later discharged from the hospital by his attending physician.

 

In Ifugao, a 34-year-old man in Alfonso Lista injured his neck after testing an old boga. The victim was brought to Potia District Hospital but was transferred to De Vera Hospital in Santiago City, Isabela for treatment.

 

No illegal discharge of firearms was also monitored during the occasion.

 

PBGEN R’win S Pagkalinawan, Regional Director of PROCOR, expressed his gratitude to the people of Cordillera for making the traditional New Year’s Day celebration generally peaceful.


Before the onset of the holiday season, PBGEN Pagkalinawan has instructed the different units of PROCOR to conduct a massive information drive and to strictly enforce EO 28 or the executive order providing for the Regulation and Control of the Use of Firecrackers and Other Pyrotechnic Devices. (PROCOR PIO)
