Hundreds of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) were registered by the Commission on Election (Comelec) inside the jail facility Thursday till Friday.
SJO2 Rey Laurence Comprendio, ZCJ Information Officer said, for Thursday, 234 male PDLs were registered while for Friday, 233 male PDLs were registered by the Comelec.
Comelec Zamboanga City district 1 election officer, Atty. Stephen Roy Cañete supervised the conduct of registration inside the jail facility.
These PDLs were registered under the first district of the Comelec because the address of the jail facility is Barangay Zone 1 which falls under the first district.
“Grande development este because mientras under sila na jail facility, we encourage them to be registered and exercise their right to suffrage.” Comprendio said.
The qualifications for these PDLs to be registered are: they must be a resident of the jail facility for six months and willing to be transferred to the first district.
According to Comprendio, this is in preparation for the upcoming May 2022 election.
These registered PDLs can only vote for President, Vice President, Senators, and Party List, they cannot vote for local candidates.
