The City Health Office (CHO) is urging senior citizens to have themselves vaccinated especially this time of pandemic.

Corazon V. Pagotaisidro, City Health Office Immunization Program Coordinator told RPN DXXX Zamboanga, these seniors must be protected especially from Pneumonia and Flu.

“This is not a vaccine for Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19). However, this can protect complications because one of the complications of Covid-19 is Pneumonia.” Pagotaisidro said.

These two vaccines are currently being given at the different health centers to senior citizens for free. They are being prioritized because these senior citizens are vulnerable especially when it comes to Covid-19.

For the month of July, 784 senior citizens were vaccinated with Pneumonia vaccine while for Flu 652.

She assured, vaccines are available and provided by the Department of Health. For Pneumonia they still have 3,000 vials left while for Flu 2,000 vials.

Pagotaisidro added, after they vaccinate these seniors they will also give the vaccine to the public for free. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
