Championing Unity: DENR Bicol 37th Regional Sportsfest

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) V, Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) V, Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) V, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Offices (PENROs), and Community Environment and Natural Resources Offices, through the DENR Employees’ Union (DENREU), headed by its President Angelito Rotaquio hosted the 37th DENR Regional Sportsfest from May 6 to 9, 2024 at the DENR V Regional Center Site, Rawis, Legazpi City.

With the theme, “Transforming into one DENR through sports and camaraderie,” the event started with a parade, presentation of delegates, raising of the banner, pledge of sportsmanship, presentation of candidates for Best Muse, and Color Zumba.

In his message, the DENR Bicol Regional Executive Director (RED) Francisco E. Milla, Jr. extended his heartfelt thanks to the DENREU and all its regional and field office personnel for their enthusiasm and dedication which made the event a tremendous success.

“This week, we have witnessed not only the display of athleticism and skills, but also the power of teamwork, camaraderie, and friendly competition,” said RED Milla. “As we return to our daily routines at work, let us carry with us the spirit of sportsmanship and collaboration. Let us continuously support each other, push our boundaries and strive for greatness both in the regional office and in the field,” he added.

The weeklong event included various sports games and competitions such as Chess, Dart, Scrabble, Table Tennis, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball and a Videoke Challenge. The “One Town, One Product Display Booths,” were also set up showcasing various products from the different provinces of the region, which was opened to the public.

With a total score of one hundred nine (109) points, the province of Masbate comprises the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Masbate headed by PENR Officer Benito B. Salazar, Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Mobo and CENRO San Jacinto led by CENR Officer Jean V. Imperial and CENRO Lemuel A. Soriano, respectively, was hailed as this year’s Regional Sportsfest Champion, followed by PENRO’s Camarines Norte and Catanduanes.
