In celebration of 2024 Solo Parents Week, the City Government of Iriga, through the Office of the City Social Welfare and Development (OCSWD), launched a Solo Parents Livelihood Assistance Program. This initiative aimed to provide aid to indigent and registered solo parents. Last April 22, 2024, the program distributed cash assistance to one hundred (100) eligible beneficiaries, with each receiving P4,800 that will serve as capital or additional boost for their business or livelihood.

Mayor Rex C. Oliva, Vice Mayor Edsel S. Dimaiwat, Executive Secretary Jor-el O. Caayao, and City Social Welfare and Development Officer Ms. Maridel C. Verrosa attended the payout event, highlighting the city government’s support for solo parents in need.

Before the program’s implementation, the OCSWD conducted thorough home visitations and validations to ensure beneficiaries met eligibility criteria, thereby guaranteeing that the assistance, serving as a lifeline for solo parents striving for a better future, reaches those truly in need. Furthermore, the OCSWD remains committed to conducting regular monitoring in the future to ensure sustained improvements in beneficiaries’ lives, fostering self-reliance and resilience.

As we celebrate Solo Parents Week with the theme “Solo Parents na Rehistrado, sa Gobyerno Tiyak na Protektado!”, let us acknowledge the resilience and strength of solo parents in our city. Through initiatives like the Solo Parents Livelihood Assistance Program, we reaffirm our commitment to support and uplift those who courageously navigate the challenges of single parenthood.
