Cebu City – Gihangyo ni Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama ang Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) nga i reconsider ang ilang desisyon pagpatuman sa dul-an ₱ 10 nga increase sa rates sa water consumption.
Gihulagway ni Rama ang desisyon sa pagpatuman ug 60 porsento nga increase sa water tariff nga “unreasonable” bisan kon sa sunod tuig pa kini ipatuman, gumikan kay nag-antus pa sa krisis ang publiko.
Gihangyo ni Rama ang MCWD nga mo review sa ilang plano pag adjust sa presyo sa tubig.
Iya sab nga gihangyo ang utility company pag implement sa bag-ong rates sa staggered basis hangtud sa 2025 aron paghatag higayon nga dili magpas-an sa bug-at nga presyo ang mga kunsomidor.
“It is government’s duty to ensure the people will not be burdened by their supposed need for basic services. It is my duty as Mayor not to agree if the constituents of Cebu City will experience any added unreasonable burden, especially in these trying times,” mensahi ni Rama.
Bag-o lang gipahibaw sa MCWD ang ilang plano nga ipatuman ang bag-ong water tariff rates sa Hulyo 2023 nga ₱ 25.05 per cubic meter.
Kini ₱ 9.85 nga umento itandi sa kasamtangan nga rates nga naa sa ₱ 15.20 per cubic meter.
Sa ilang press release, gipahibaw sa MCWD nga kinahanglan niini nga i adjust rates sa water comsumption alang sa pag tubag sa operational cost nga ilang na gasto sa nangaging katuigan.
Naka gasto ang MCWD ug mokabat ₱ 14.1 billion pag sustain ug upgrade sa ilang operation sukad niadtong 2015.
Gihangyo sab ni Rama ang MCWD ug City Council pagpahigayon ug public hearing sa dili pa ipatuman ang umento sa presyo sa tubig.
“As Mayor, I also ask the City Council to call for a public hearing so that all consumers can speak out freely about the increase MCWD wants to impose. I will actively participate. I cannot just put this on the side,” hangyo ni Rama.
Alang sa mayor nga ang public hearing magsilbing right venue diin ang mga apektadong konsumidor maka padayag sa ilang concerns ngadto sa water utility firms.
“It is important that we in the Executive and the Legislative determine what is equitable and fair, as we are still working to rise back from the crises… Super-typhoon Odette proved the inadequacies of MCWD to deliver water to those in need during the calamity.
