Police Regional Office 7 expressed their deep sorrow and disdain for the brutal incident that happened near New Danao Supply Center, where a policeman died after responding to an armed incident.
At 12:20 pm, Danao City Police Station received a report of a man who was armed by a security guard in a pawnshop in P. Del Pilar Street, Barangay Poblacion. The suspect had intended to shoot the guard but the weapon did not fire.
Concerned people saw this and immediately called for help from a personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), who immediately approached the police assigned in Danao CPS. They responded to the suspect but upon their seizure, the suspect shot the officer who was hit and killed.
BJMP personnel also shot and hit the suspect. The two were immediately taken to the hospital — the police officer and the suspect — but were pronounced dead from serious injuries.
The hero policeman is Pat. Mark Gomer Amancio Ornopia, 27-year-old, and the member of BJMP who responded is JO1 Reygie Obiedo Ornopia is 34-year-old, while the suspect who resisted and killed is Argie Agravante Catipay, 24-year-old taga Salamanca,Toboso, Negros Occidental.
