Catholics Conducts Red Wednesday 2020

The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (MCIC) have conducted its Red Wednesday 2020 to remember the suffering of the church around the world Wednesday evening.

Most Reverend Moises M. Cuevas, Auxiliary Bishop of Zamboanga City presided the high mass together with Archbishop of Zamboanga, Most Reverend Romulo Dela Cruz.

Hundreds of mass goers were wearing red shirt and a ceremonial lighting of candle was done outside the church after the mass.

Despite the number of attendees, strict health protocols were followed such as checking of temperature, wearing of facemask and shield and physical distancing.

Red Wednesday Campaign is an annual celebration to highlight the issues on religious persecution, but 2020 forced us on a new face of sufferings the deadly coronavirus.

Red Wednesday 2020 was entitled “RED MEANS LOVE: One Church Against COVID-19. The color red connotes love that is courage, patient endurance, and compassion.

The mass was also dedicated to the frontliners, the sick, and persecuted brothers and sisters. (R.G. Antonet A. Go)
