Caraga Police Files Case Versus Barangay Captain Involved In Illegal Logging

Camp Col. Rafael C. Rodriguez, Butuan City – POLICE BRIGADIER GENERAL ROMEO M. CARAMAT JR., Regional Director PRO13 said that Cantilan police has already filed complaint against a Barangay Captain in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur involved in illegal logging on August 20.

“The case was filed before the local court under NPS-XIII-07b-INV-21Hc-00265 issued by the Prosecutor Office, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur for violations of Presidential Decree 705 Revised Forestry Code of the Philippines to Noel M Azarcon alias Tiger, legal age, male, and Barangay Captain of Barangay Tapi, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur, and his cohorts who were at-large,” PBGEN. CARAMAT JR. said.

It can be remembered that Cantilan police received an intelligence report that assorted lumbers were stocked along the riverside in Purok 2. Immediately, personnel of Cantilan MPS led by PMAJ FERDINAND P TAVARES Chief of Police of Cantilan together with the Forester Charles O Sullano DMO III, CENRO confirmed and confiscated 17,000 board feet forest products with estimated market value of ₱ 500, 000.00 pesos.

According to investigation, the sawn lumbers were allegedly owned by Azarcon delivered from other municipalities in Surigao del Sur.

PBGEN CARAMAT JR said that Cantilan police formally turned-over the lumbers to DENR-CENRO in Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.

“More aggressive police operations will continue against illegal logging activities despite this pandemic in Caraga region in line with PNP LOI SANGYAMAN or the Campaign against Illegal Logging,” he concluded.  (PMaj. Dorothy M. Tumulak)
