The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) will investigate the misinformation dragging the Bacolod Congressional Office on the distribution of financial assistance for the (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) LGBT community at the Old City Hall yesterday.

The purported misinformation was circulated via text message over the weekend.

Rep. Greg Gasataya considered it as “fake news,” as he clarified in his Facebook post that the text message was not true.

Gasataya said he already informed outgoing Bacolod police director, Colonel Henry Biñas about it, and told him to investigate it.

Gasataya said that if his office will be providing any assistance to the Bacolodnons, it will be officially announced through his official Facebook page or they can contact his staff at his office.

Gasataya appealed to the public to stop spreading fake news to prevent causing harm to people amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

He advised the people to directly call his office via (034) 432-9017 to verify the information.

Meanwhile, Biñas said that the BCPO will look into the matter to determine the people responsible behind the “fake text message.”

“They will be facing appropriate charges for spreading false information,” he added.
