The 2023 Ilocos Norte Athletic Association (INAA) Meet was formally declared open on March 11 at Bacarra National Comprehensive High School in Bacarra town, after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
More than 1,000 athletic delegation of the Schools Division of Ilocos Norte (SDOIN) comprised of athletes and coaches from four (4) competing units of the province, namely, the South Unit, Central Unit, East Unit, and North Unit. Other participants were tournament managers, officiating officials, school heads, stakeholders, Division Office personnel, and officials from the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) during the opening ceremony.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta-Marcos emphasized the Governor’s ambition of making Ilocos Norte, a sports tourist capital in Northern Luzon.
“With our thriving tourism industry, we have also managed to develop the sports tourism of the Province by hosting national and internationals sports events, as well as by the recent re-opening of the newly rehabilitated Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium. These are steps closer to achieving the goal of Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, which is to make Ilocos Norte the sports tourism capital of Northern Luzon,” Vice Gov. Araneta-Marcos said during the opening program.
She also assured the SDOIN of the PGIN’s full support and commitment to further strengthening the education sector by empowering youth through sports activities and providing a potential venue for friendly tournaments.
The rehabilitated Ferdinand E. Marcos Memorial Stadium and the development of INspire, a training and accommodation facility, will enable the province’s young athletes improve their skills and abilities.
The 2023 INAA Meet will conclude on March 19. Champions of various sports events will represent the province at the upcoming Region One (1) Athletic Association Meet in San Carlos City, Pangasinan.
