Batac: Governor Marcos Manotoc ups “Commercial Hub” status for Ilocos Norte at 2nd SOPA

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc delivered his second State of the Province Address (SOPA), highlighting significant accomplishments and achievements of the key sectors prioritized by the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte over the past year at the Plaza Del Norte Hotel and Convention Center, yesterday.

Almost a thousand people attended the event, composed of provincial officials, local chief executives, representatives of national government agencies, members of non-government organizations, and heads of various communities.

He began his address by acknowledging the most recent challenges faced by the province, particularly the devastation caused by Super Typhoons “Egay” and “Goring.” Yet, he emphasized the resilience of the Ilokano people, stating:

“Every disaster reminds us of our people’s resilience—a trademark Ilokano trait defined not only by our ability to withstand adversity but, more importantly, our determination to build back better. Naandur tayo!”

Gov. Marcos Manotoc provided highlight to significant accomplishments in the province’s economic growth, infrastructure projects, improved healthcare facilities, advancements in agriculture, environmental sustainability, expanded social services, and a thriving tourism sector. He expressed gratitude to each of the department head of the Provincial Government for their unwavering support in his administration.

Additionally, he featured Ilocos Norte’s status as a top producer of high-value crops, a prominent tourism hotspot, and a leading renewable energy capital. He articulated his vision to continue pursuing the goal of making Ilocos Norte the commercial hub of Northern Luzon.

“As we open our province to investment, we prioritize the best interests of our people, our environment, and our homegrown businesses. We also call upon all Ilocanos around the world to return home, collaborate with us at the PGIN, and invest in our beloved province to create jobs and livelihoods for our people. With our well-maintained peace and order, highly educated populace, strategic location, and international ports, we are confident in our role as the Philippine Gateway to East Asia,” he added.

Ending his speech, Gov. Marcos Manotoc said, “Today, may we all recommit to the betterment of our great province of Ilocos Norte—one that lights the path for our youth, fortifies the hands of our farmers, and emboldens the dreams of every Ilokano.
