Mayor Romeo K. Salda stated that the inventory of vaccinated residents will be done with the active participation of barangay officials to guarantee the timely implementation of the said strategy that will pave the way for the local government to determine the actual number of residents that are already vaccinated, the reasons for their refusal to be vaccinated and those who had been vaccinated outside the municipality.

He claimed that the conduct of the inventory of vaccinated and unvaccinated residents was agreed during a recent meeting with concerned stakeholders to help in further increasing the number of vaccinated individuals in the municipality so that it will be able to help improve the province’s alert level status.

The local chief executive stipulated that by being aware of the reasons why some of the residents do not want to be vaccinated, local officials and health workers will be able to devise the appropriate strategies to convince them to be vaccinated against the dreaded Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 for them to have added protection against severe infection or eventual death.

Aside from the conduct of the inventory, Mayor Salda stipulated that accompanying health workers will also be vaccinating individuals who want to be vaccinated on the spot and those who want to avail of the booster shots.

Benguet that includes this capital town has been placed under alert Level 2 from March 16-31, 2022 because of the province’s alleged failure to achieve the 70 percent herd immunity among the senior citizens.

According to Mayor Salda, the local government will work on the vaccination of unvaccinated senior citizens and members of the vulnerable sectors to help the province achieve the threshold of the herd immunity that will contribute in the ongoing efforts to achieve a much lower alert level by next month or earlier depending on the decision of the inter-agency task force for the management of emerging infectious diseases.

He urged residents in the town’s 16 barangays to cooperate with the conduct of the inventory of vaccinated or unvaccinated individuals and for them to be honest in answering the questions of barangay officials and health workers who will be visiting their homes within the week.

He noted that there are some residents who had been vaccinated in other areas outside the municipality but were not reflected on the local government’s database that is why they should inform the health workers during the conduct of the inventory on their vaccination status and where were they vaccinated to help in providing the real vaccination data of the municipality in the coming weeks.

La Trinidad is one of the 13 towns of Benguet with a high vaccination rate among its residents as some of them were reportedly vaccinated in other places because they are currently working in the said places. (RPN Baguio News Team)
