Baguio city Mayor Benjamin Magalong announced Monday the cancellation of the 25th staging of the popular “Panagbenga” flower festival this year amid coronavirus fears.

“This was the decision of the Baguio City Interagency Task Force on COVID-19, following recommendations made by the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation Inc.” Magalong said

The Grand Street Parade which was rescheduled on March 28, Grand Float Parade on March 29, and Session Road in Bloom scheduled from March 30 to April 5 and all related events to the annual festivities were all cancelled.

Night market operations along Harrison road will also be suspended for 14 days effective today, March 10.

School suspension.

Mayor Magalong: Looking at the present situation based on the data presented by the DOH-CAR, there is no urgent need to suspend classes in the city as of now. One of the game changers would be information that would directly link one of the confirmed cases to the city.

“For events already transpiring as of this announcement, they can proceed but the organizers are advised to ensure that they will strictly observe all the COVID-19 health protocols of the DOH. For upcoming events, we appeal to the organizers to postpone the conduct of their activities for the next 14 days as a preventive measure against the disease.” The mayor added.
