The province of Benguet is now accepting applications for the Provincial Scholarship Program for underprivileged but deserving Benguet students who want to pursue a college education.
Benguet Governor Dr. Melchor Daguines Diclas issued a memorandum order recently reminding all mayors in the 13 towns of the province of the yearly screening of qualified students for school year 2022-2023 to their respective barangays.
Diclas mentioned that the Provincial Ordinance No. 2019-261 is the basis for all barangays to submit three student-applicants for the final screening of the qualified and most deserving students to the Provincial Scholarship Program Committee (PSPC) for final screening.
“The government’s education scholarship program is one way by which the province can help improve the economic status of the families,” Diclas said.
The province expanded their scholarship program for those who graduated from the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program from the 14 DepEd Benguet districts and four additional slots for those who excelled in sports or any technical skills that brought honor and prestige to the province.
The provincial government provides ₱ 20, 000 financial assistance yearly or ₱ 10, 000 per semester to each student.
With the initiative of Gov. Diclas and the support from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan the province increased number of slots to 158 from 104. (Joseph Manzano)
