Bacolod City – The registration of voters will resume on December 9 and end on January 31, 2023, Bacolod Election Officer Kathrina Trinio-Cana announced.

It is just an initial period since the Commission on Elections can always extend the period of registration, she said.

Cana said the law (Republic Act No. 11935) postponed the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections scheduled for on December 5 this year to the last Monday of October 2023.

RA 11935 was signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on October 10.

Cana said SK voters who turned 15 years old or those who have not qualified for the registration before may now register.

She appealed to the registrants to register early on Dec. 9. They need to have enough patience during the registration, especially if they have to queue, since the period of registration is limited to December 9 to January 31, 2023, and they are currently unable to schedule satellite registration in the barangays.

However, they may prioritize big and far-flung barangays for satellite registration to be scheduled on Saturdays, Cana said.

Registration will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Registrants are required to bring any valid ID and barangay certification.

The total number of registered voters for the Barangay elections in Bacolod City is 330,621 while there are 100,697 registered voters for the SK elections. (Chrysee Semillano via The Visayan Daily Star, photo courtesy of Sunstar)
