Bacolod City – The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is urging the City Administrator’s Office to reconsider the disqualification of 863 tricycle drivers from receiving fuel subsidy under City Ordinance No. 1003.

The resolution authored by Councilor Em Ang said C.O. 1003 was passed last August 17, 2022, to provide fuel subsidies to Bacolod City tricycle drivers and operators who are affected by the unprecedented increase of gasoline prices in the country which at one point reached 91 pesos last July 2022.

On January 16, 2023, this representation received a letter of appeal from Edgard Ombion, representative of tricycle drivers and operators, and Genoa Percival, coordinator of the Sectoral Affairs Office, to reconsider the disqualification as beneficiaries of the aforesaid Ordinance by the City Administrator’s Office of some 863 tricycle drivers and operators, the resolution said.

Upon checking with the Business Permits and Licensing Office, we found out that the above mentioned appellants’ documents have been thoroughly examined by the said office before the deadline and expiry of their documents, however, during the counter checking done by the City Administrator’s Office last February 2023, they were disqualified due to expiry of documents at the time of counterchecking, it added.

Considering that all requirements have been complied with at the time of application and upon evaluation of the BPLO, their documents are valid and in order, it is just right that fuel subsidy due to these tricycle drivers be released to the qualified beneficiaries without further delay, it said.
