Bacolod SP approves reso on biosecurity measures

A resolution requesting Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to strictly implement City Ordinance No. 952 which establishes preventive measures against communicable diseases from animals, was recently approved by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panglungsod.

The resolution authored by Councilor Claudio Puntevella, said Bacolod City Ordinance No. 952 or the Communicable Diseases Lookout Ordinance: Laban sa Sakit ng Hayop provides established preventive measures and regulations in all barangays of the City of Bacolod against African Swine Fever (ASF) and other re-emerging communicable animal diseases and provides biosecurity measures in the territory of Bacolod City.

Section 6 of C.O. No. 952 provides that the City of Bacolod shall intensify risk assessments, surveillance and monitoring of all African Swine Fever and re-emerging infectious animal diseases within Bacolod City, it said.

The resolution said Section 7 of C.O. No. 952 provides that the City of Bacolod shall strengthen biosecurity implementation of the said ordinance within the territorial jurisdiction of the city.

The strict implementation of the said ordinance will protect the general public from unscrupulous practices and prevent the introduction, sale, and distribution of hog products and hog meat contaminated with African Swine Fever or Hog Cholera, within the City of Bacolod, it added.
