Bacolod City – Pro-Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) advocates called for an orderly and peaceful plebiscite scheduled on January 24 to 25 and on July 1 and 2, for the purpose of securing the decision of consumer members of Central Negros Electric Cooperative on the proposed JVA between the distribution utility and Primelectric Holdings, Inc.
During the referendum, consumer-members of Ceneco will vote Yes or No to the ratification of the JVA between Ceneco and Primelectric.
The lead convenors of the “Forum for a Peaceful and Orderly Plebiscite” said during a press conference, “If we fail to successfully support and uphold the JVA, Ceneco will collapse under the weight of its own contradictions. Its system loss had become the major structural fault in its obligation. Greed and incompetence will advance its banners if JVA will be left unguarded at the gates of this distribution utility. It is not wrong to fear this warning, it is the beginning of wisdom.”
“As the consumers expands, they shall demand for affordable and reliable power supply, more freedom and greater voice in their destiny, rather than remain as a normal member-consumer-owner (MCO), without any proof of ownership in this so-called cooperative,” they said during a press conference.
“We could be bold and commanding in the assertion of our rights to deserve a quality of life as consumers and to exert a paramount influence in our advocacy to advance the welfare of Ceneco consumers. But in our call for the consumers to exercise their sovereign will in an orderly and peaceful plebiscite, we call for peace and understanding as we foresee the light of the JVA, at the end of the tunnel,” the group said.
The lead convenors said “We call for sobriety, for us to ponder and look at the near future as consumers who shall enjoy the comfort and convenience of an environment with minimal poser disturbance, prompt and efficient services with state-of-the-art gadgets, machines and technologies as envisioned by the JVA.”
The lead convenors present were Wennie Sancho, secretary general of Power Watch Negros; Dionesio Dela Cruz, spokesperson of Pro-JVA Multi-Sectorial Group; Rodolfo “Bebot” Song of Utilities Consumers Alliance for Reform; and Roy Cordova, a former president of Ceneco and consumer advocate.
