BACOLOD CITY — Negros Electric and Power Corporation (Negros Power) has announced a reduction in electricity rates for December 2025, offering some relief to consumers as households prepare for increased power usage during the holiday season.

The utility said the average residential rate dropped to PHP 12.0441 per kilowatt-hour, down PHP 0.1881 from November’s rate of PHP 12.2322.

The decrease translates to added savings for consumers at a time when electricity demand typically rises.

Negros Power attributed the rate cut mainly to lower power supply costs, particularly reduced prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market.

The WESM rate fell from PHP 7.6709 per kilowatt-hour to PHP 6.0475 — a drop of PHP 1.6304 — following lower demand in the Visayas after recent typhoons.

This resulted in a PHP 0.4339 reduction in overall generation charges.

Meanwhile, transmission charges saw a slight increase due to higher ancillary service costs, which rose from PHP 60.2813 per kilowatt to PHP 62.9213.

This adjustment added approximately PHP 0.1932 per kilowatt-hour to residential bills, as system conditions tightened post-typhoon.

Despite the higher transmission fees, Negros Power said the net effect remains a decrease in overall electricity rates, ensuring tangible savings for consumers this month.

The company released the following average electricity rates for December 2025:

Residential: PHP 12.0441 per kilowatt-hour

Low voltage: PHP 12.0474 per kilowatt-hour

High voltage: PHP 10.7804 per kilowatt-hour

Negros Power reaffirmed its commitment to transparent pricing and efficient operations and said it will continue monitoring market trends to help keep electricity rates affordable. (Dolly Yasa via tvds photo by tvds)
