Bacolod City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office may again skip the sealing of the muzzles of service firearms of police officers this upcoming New Year celebration.

PLt. Judesses Catalogo, NOCPPO spokesperson, said as of this time, there is no memorandum issued by Camp Crame regarding the taping of gun muzzles. He recalled that the gun muzzle sealing practices were stopped during the stint as PNP chief of current Senator Ronald dela Rosa.

“Our police officers know the consequences, if ever they are involved in the indiscriminate firing of guns,” Catalogo said.

Some PNP officials have observed the taping of gun muzzles to be ineffective.

Catalogo added the issued firearms of PNP personnel can be used only during the legal performance of duty.

The PNP has strict rules on the involvement of policemen in indiscriminate firing incidents, with violators facing possible dismissal from service.
