Bacolod: NegOcc dengue cases near 5,000

Bacolod City – Dengue cases in Negros Occidental are nearing the 5,000 mark, as 55 cases were reported from October 2 to 8, but with zero fatalities, according to a report released on Oct. 14 by the Department of Health- Western Visayas.

The province of Negros Occidental has now 4,836 dengue cases, with 28 deaths, from January 1 to Oct. 8 this year.

On the other hand, the highly urbanized Bacolod City has a total of 842 cases with 12 deaths.

DOH-Western Visayas however reported that dengue cases all over the region has remained below 500 for eight straight weeks, with zero new deaths recorded.

Western Visayas has now 13,421 cases, with 136 cases reported from Oct. 2 to 8, and deaths totaling 76.

Negros Occidental remains on top, among the six provinces and two highly urbanized cities of Western Visayas, with the highest number of dengue cases at 4,836, Iloilo – 2,616, Antique – 2,467, Iloilo City -955, Bacolod City – 842, Capiz -743, Aklan – 687, and Guimaras -275.

The report added that Negros Occidental also recorded the highest number of fatalities at 28, Iloilo -20, Bacolod City -12, Antique- 8, Aklan -4, Capiz and Iloilo City with 2 each, and zero in Guimaras. (Gilbert Bayoran via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
