Bacolod City – Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez called on the public, all barangay and purok officials to be “extra vigilant against the incidence of grass fire, as well as other fire incidents that may happen within their jurisdictions,” Caesar Distrito, the mayor’s spokesperson said recently.

Benitez is reminding everyone to ensure that they report any fire incident to the nearest fire station so that immediate actions can be taken, Distrito said.

The reminder came after a series of residential fires and grass fires broke out in various locations of the city, particularly Barangays Alijis and Bata.

“The mayor also asked all barangays to organize or reactivate volunteers as part of the firefighting initiatives of the city,” Distrito said.

Benitez also reminded Bacoleños to avoid small fires, stop burning their garbage, and to make sure fire-prone and combustible materials are kept safely away, the former councilor said.

Meanwhile, an early morning fire destroyed a house in Bangga Totong, Brgy. Felisa, Bacolod City yesterday.

The Bureau of Fire Bacolod reported that the damage caused by fire to the house of Roland Dillapeña Tulopia amounted to about P7,000.

No one was reported hurt in the incident. (Chrysee Semilano via The Visayan Daily Star)
