BACOLOD CITY — The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) disrupted an illegal motorcycle drag race along Circumferential Road in Barangay Granada here recently.
A joint late-night operation was conducted following a tip from an informant about nightly drag races along the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Economic Highway (Banoceh).
In a radio interview, LTO-NIR Director Jeck Conlu said they had been monitoring the activity in the area and coordinated with the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) to launch the operation.
The operation led to the impoundment of 13 motorcycles due to document-related violations and the issuance of citation tickets to at least 20 riders for violations of Republic Act 4136, or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
Conlu said some of the riders were from the cities of Talisay, Silay, and Bago in Negros Occidental.
The LTO-NIR said the operation highlighted its continued commitment to road safety and strict enforcement against illegal racing and other traffic violations.
Illegal drag racing is considered a road safety risk because it endangers riders, motorists, pedestrians, and nearby communities, especially when held on public roads without permits or safety controls. (Glazyl M. Jopson via tdg photo by tdg)
