Bacolod: 6 Bacolod barangay kapitans running unopposed

Bacolod City – Six barangays in Bacolod City have barangay captains running unopposed in the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE).

These are Barangays 7, 15, 24, 25, 32, and 36.

Meanwhile, Barangays 24, 36 and 37 also have unopposed candidates for SK chairman.

On the other hand, Barangay Mandalagan has eight aspirants for barangay captain.

An aspirant for barangay kagawad and another for SK kagawad have withdrawn their certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the BSKE.

The last candidate to file his COC before Comelec Bacolod on the last day of filing on Saturday was Guillermo Neri Cardenas of Barangay Tangub, while an application for a SK kagawad candidate from Brgy. Felisa was not accepted by the Comelec after it was filed at 5:14 p.m., which was beyond the 5 p.m. deadline.

Bacolod Election Officer Katrina Trinio-Caña said the 5-day filling of COC was peaceful as there were no major problems encountered.

Candidates are encouraged to be present during the verification of their COCs. However, they can send their representatives to check the list of candidates to ensure the correct spelling of their names and their positions, Caña said.

After the verification process, they will forward the list of candidates and the COCs to Comelec Manila for final assessment, she added.

The Commission on Elections is still finalizing the total number of candidates who have filed the COCs for the BSKE in Bacolod City.

The implementation of the Comelec gun ban for the BSKE started on August 28, while the campaign period is from October 19 to 28.

A liquor ban will also be implemented from Oct. 29 to 30. (Chrysee Semillano via The Visayan Daily Star (TVDS), photo courtesy of TVDS)
