Bacolod City – Extreme heat triggered the suspension of face to face classes in Negros Occidental at the start of March, affecting 381,415 learners all over the province, disclosed Hernani Escullar, spokesperson of the Department of Education in Western Visayas.
Escullar said that a total of 652 schools in five of the 13 DepEd divisions in Negros Occidental reported suspensions of face-to-face classes, on various dates between March 3 and 7, depending on heat index levels.
The heat index in Negros Occidental was reported by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office on March 16 at 36 degrees centigrade (extreme caution).
Escullar also reported that 458 schools shifted to the self-learning module, 93 to hybrid or online and self-learning mode, and 101 to the dynamic learning mode or online learning program and module, based on the needs of the learners. (Gilbert Bayoran via tvds)
