An accidental firing transpired at Purok Bagong Silang, Barangay Bibilik, Dumalinao, Zamboanga Del Sur at about 12:05 PM of August 14, 2020. The victim was identified Renato Penida Maputi Sr., 47 years old, married, Bantay-Dagat Member, and a resident of abovementioned place.
Investigation conducted disclosed that prior to the incident, the victim after rendering his duty as Bantay-Dagat went inside the house of his sister, wherein he removed his sling bag from his body containing alleged caliber .22 and placed it on the chair beside him. However, his four years old nephew who was playing at that time unintentionally dragged the said sling bag and fell on the floor and accidentally fired hitting on his left hip.
The victim was immediately brought by his wife to Pagadian City Medical Center and subsequently referred to Margosatubig Regional Hospital for further treatment. PNP personnel of Dumalinao Municipal Police Station coordinated with the aforementioned barangay chairman and family of the victim for the possible recovery of the firearm. (PCPT. Edwin A.
