39 Areas In Baguio Under COVID-19 Lockdown

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong ordered that the lockdown status will still in effect to 39 areas as the city logged more COVID-19 cases the past days.

At present the city registered a total of 779 COVID-19 cases, active cases rose to 327 after 44 residents test positive yesterday while 358 have recovered and 12 died.

One barangay, Sto. Nino-Slaughter, was placed under hard lockdown due to clustering and numerous cases while the other 38 are puroks located in 22 villages.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong advised the public to always wear their face shields and masks when going out of their homes to strengthen their protection against the Coronavirus disease.

The city has been requiring all individuals to always wear face shields properly while inside establishments or even outside their homes or buildings. The Baguio City Police Office and the Public Order and Safety Division were task to monitor compliance to the health protocol.

Like in the previous days, majority of the new patients belonged to existing case clusters in households and barangays with contacts of current cases.

The mayor earlier said the spike in cases was expected with the continuing testing and contact tracing efforts as he assured that the city’s containment strategies on PDITR (Prevent, Detect, Isolate, Treat, and Reintegrate) remain in full force to address the expected surge.

Since September 23, 175 residents were infected with the virus.

Several days from now the city will open its door to tourists coming from La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur as part of the a “tourism bubble” in a bid to boost the economy amid the COVID-19 pandemic. (OIC Joe Manzano, RPN DZBS Baguio, photo courtesy by Neil Clark Ongchangco)
