200 participants attended the 2019 Provincial Forum of Persons with Disability last July 26, 2019 at Dipolog City.
The activity was organized by the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO) in Zamboanga del Norte which was led by PSWD Officer Ms. Nenita Maningo.
The event was in relevance with the 41st national Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week Celebration with a theme: “ Lokal na Pamahalaan, Kabalikat sa Pagtupad ng Karapatan ng mga Taong may Kapansanan” which focuses on the development of PWDs rights.
Ms. Maningo said that discrimination against the PWDs violates the dignity and value of the person.
ZNPWDA President, Councilor Vailoces explained the benefits of PWDs particularly the 20% discount on transportation fare. While the 5% discount on basic commodities faces problems and intrigues since most establishments in the province refuses to give this benefit to the PWDs even if they already have the rights for it.
Thus, DTI encourages all participants to report this kind of incident to their office to resolve this problem if it continues to occur.
The event was successful and all PWD beneficiaries were enlightened about their rights and benefits they can enjoy.
