2 Days IP Games, hosted and opened by Mayor Pacquiao in GenSan

    General Santos City – Mayor Lorelie Pacquiao led the opening of the Indigenous Peoples (IP) Games held at Acharon Sports Complex in Barangay Calumpang in Gensan City.

    Delegations from Alabel, Glan, Kiamba, Maasim, Maitum, Malapatan, and Malungon towns in Sarangani province and host cities. IP players, will host a two (2) day sporting event, with ten traditional sports, such as Gamti (Pana), Fire-Making, Kasing (Trompo), Skuya (Running), Kadang Kadang, Kmahung (Swimming Relay), Tug of War, Bangkaw (Spear Throw), Bayo sa Palay and Sudol.

    “In their message, Mayor Pacquiao emphasized the importance of unity, strengthening culture, and promoting traditions in communities,” the city government said. “IP Games are an important step towards showcasing the unique abilities of indigenous people and making their significant contribution to the town’s history and culture,” it added.

    Among those who also welcomed the participants was Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Commissioner Matthew Gaston.

    The PSC has been organizing the IP Games since 2018 following the appeal of the United Nations Educational and Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the preservation of the world’s cultural heritage.
