A total of 16 Bacolodnon OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) have returned to Bacolod City Thursday afternoon [May 21] and were immediately brought to one of the hotels in the city that will serve as their quarantine facility.

This was the fourth batch of returning OFWs directly received by the city government, through the Action Team on Returning OFWs (ATRO), created by Mayor Evelio Leonardia and chaired by Councilor Israel Salanga.

The OFWs, who were stranded in Manila during the implementation of community quarantine, arrived at the BREDCO Port in Bacolod via M/V St. Therese of Child Jesus of 2GO Group, and were picked up by the city bus.

The repatriates are required to undergo 14-day quarantine upon arrival here. They must be tested negative of the coronavirus disease (COVID) before they are eventually sent home.

Upon their arrival at the hotel, the luggages of the OFWs were thoroughly disinfected by the Bacolod City DRRMO personnel.

The city had already established a protocol on receiving the returning OFWs, including readying the facilities that will house them while on quarantine, in coordination with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

The city is committed to observing strictly the health protocols on handling returning OFWs.*/CITY PIO
