1 Died, 1 Survived In Sipalay City Ambush

One died while another survived when unidentified armed men ambushed them at about 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sitio Dungga in Barangay Maricalum, Sipalay City.

Police Chief Inspector Anthony Grande, OIC police chief of Sipalay, said the fatality was identified only as “Rex”, whose real identity remained unknown as of presstime last night.

Rex’s companion, Jomar Molo Garcia, 30, single of Barangay Magballo, Kabankalan City who was driving the Ford Everest rented by Rex, is still confined in a hospital.

Police investigation disclosed that the victims were on their way home to Kabankalan from Hinoba-an town when ambushed reportedly by about 10 armed men who immediately fled.

Grande clarified that other than the two, there were no other person in the Ford Everest, correcting initial report that Sipalay Councilor Jonathan Eran was with the victims in the car.

Rex and Garcia were rushed to Sipalay City Infirmary and later to Kabankalan District Hospital but Grande said that Rex died about 1 a.m. yesterday.

Police is still investigating the incident.*
