Zamboanga: ZCJ PDL’s Celebrates NACOCOW 2021 Virtually


The Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) of Zamboanga City Jail (ZCJ) despite the pandemic Coronavirus Disease 2019 will be celebrating the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) virtually from October 24 to October 30 to give importance to the PDL’s.

NACOCOW, is a yearly activity in lieu of Proclamation Number 551 by former President Fidel Ramos who declared every last week of October as National Correctional Consciousness Week. The theme for this year’s NACOCOW celebration is “Magkaisa, Magtulungan, Magdamayan Covid 19 ay labanan.”

J/Sr. Insp. Fe Galvez, chief Unit Welfare and Development, said “This is to give importance to the PDLs para maging masaya sila kahit pandemic.”

Activities included are display of livelihood products, non contact sports, essay writing contest, medical mission, parole and probation symposium, PAO Lawyers consultation, Cell Leaders Tik Tok Competition, vaccination of PDLs, Hip Hop Dance Competition, Miss False Gay, and others.

This will support the causes of PDL’s, will raise the consciousness of the public on the plight of the PDL’s, and to promote unity between the BJMP personnel and PDL’s.

Strict health protocols will be followed to ensure the virus will not spread.

At present, 2,965 male PDLs who are detained in the said jail facility.
